Monteith's Winter Ale (Doppelbock)
Monteith's Brewing Co.
6% ABV
The seasonal "Winter Ale", brewed using 4 different malts with the intent on Delivering a rich depth of flavours from New Zealand's famous brewery.
Review
Roasted malts are used and this gives the beer a roasted coffee, chocolate character. I even got a very slight tobacco aroma. The beer is a dark brown/ruby colour, slightly hazy with a just off-white creamy head. The beer has enough malt to give it a good amount of depth and has a nice bitter finish. It has a surprisingly light body.
This is a good beer, well priced with enough flavour to interest the fussy midweek drinker but it has a light body making it a great beer for session drinking too.
